Monthly Newsletter of Olivedale Senior Center

Olivedale was the best represented in the Fourth of July Parade this year. Leading the parade with banner held high were members Dave Rooker and Mike Ryan. Our entries included the Clowns, Charlie’s Chippers, Glad Red Hatters, Kitchen Band and the Olivedale Bus. And that was in addition to the Park Department entries!

The Olivedale Clowns sing and act-out routines with skits, music and song. They are volunteers who represent Olivedale to the community by visiting nursing homes and schools. Using lots of color, noise and balloons they are ordinary people who transform into outgoing, extra-ordinary entertainers with the addition of clever costumes and a little make-up.

The clowns "fished" for giggles and guffaws as they led the Olivedale entourage from a fishing boat secured to a boat trailer. They sported fishing poles with colorful fish attached. Olivedale appreciates these volunteers who go out to make others smile. New and "used" clowns are welcome. Anyone interested can call Lloyd Wasem at 740-654-0731. He sounds just like a regular guy on the phone, but wait until you see him!

Friends of the Park
The Kroger Gift Certificates have a second purchasing option. You can still purchase the $10 and $20 certificates at Olivedale and use like cash when shopping; or you can now buy a $10 card (credit card size) at Olivedale and increase its value in the check-out lane. All proceeds still go to Friends of the Park. You keep the card and use it again and again with your card “recharging” done at Kroger rather than purchasing new certificates at Olivedale each time.

Greeting from the Director

Have you ever seen so many American flags as there were in the Fourth of July parade. It was a great parade and we saw many of you waving from the gallery. Shall we all remember that the Fourth of July is a date. Independence Day is the holiday and that which we truly celebrate.

Those of you with access to a computer jump on the web and checkout our new site at www.olivedale.com. It is completely new and features our current calendar of events as well as updates. It is in the beginning stages so watch for changes. We will be adding more information about activities and many more pictures.

When I was a kid, our hog roasts were all day affairs where the hog was put underground on coals. It is good that someone else is doing the roasting for us. I am looking forward to my first here at Olivedale, hoping for good weather and to seeing many of you on the 24th.
