| Greeting
from the Director |
Personal congratulations to
all those elected to the Olivedale Board. I
look forward to working with each of you.
I am so
pleased with the results of the "Second Tuesday
Lunch." June doubled the number served in May
making it quite successful with the dining area humming
with visiting chatter. Hamburgers on the grill smelled
so good and some were stacked pretty high with all the
trimmings! Check out July’s menu – we’re using the
grill again.
The art
talent within this membership is very impressive as
evidenced during the art show in May. You all have so
much to share and it was delightful to have the Center
filled with your creations. What other ways can we show
off members' gifts and skills?
It sure
got hot in a hurry this year. Be careful and use
precautions while working out-of-doors and stay
hydrated! Baby blue birds are hatching at Olivedale and
the squirrels are still racing up and down the Big Oak.
Life is good!

Sunday Treats
How about a concert or two, or seven? Eighteen (18) Columbus Symphony
packages have been purchased for the 2004-2005 season. Beginning September
26 and ending May 8, 2005, these performances are matinees called the
"Sunday Treats." Our 18-seater bus will leave Olivedale at noon
with plenty of time to enjoy a lunch stop (on your own) and get to the 3:00
show. We will offer the entire seven concert package for $95.00 to those
wanting the entire series and, if any remain, will sell individual shows
later in the season. For the complete description of the performances, stop
by the office.
Olivedale Goes to the
Zoo
September 15 is Senior Day at the Columbus Zoo and Olivedale is invited!
Baby pigmy chimp, baby gorilla and toddler elephant are some of the new

visit the kangaroo walkabout – you can ride the free tram too. Lunch is
provided as the Zoo entertains seniors for the day. Eighteen reservations
will be taken for the trip on our bus. Cost is $13.00, all inclusive. If we
have enough interest, we will rent an additional vehicle.

The Radio City Christmas Spectacular will be at the Ohio Theatre,
Sunday, December 5, 2004 for a matinee show. The Olivedale bus will
depart at 10:30a for the noon show. We will stop for dinner afterwards
(on your own). First floor seats, $57.00.
Dinner Show

laughter is the best medicine, then Charlie Prose is a wonder drug”
describes this show with live orchestra, hilarious stories and
side-splitting comedy. The performance is Friday, November 19, 2004.
The bus will leave Olivedale at 10:00a for this dinner-show. Per person

Just a reminder, advance registration is
required for aquatic classes and is made at the front desk. Your
wellness coupons are still good; they may be used for up to one
hour of open pool time, for landbased exercise, yoga or applied
toward the cost of aquatic classes.
If
you are considering taking an aquatic class and have been inactive
for a while, please contact Stacey prior to your first class.
Remember the path to wellness starts in the space between your
ears. YOU are the one who makes the decision to take that first
step off the couch, toward the door and the path to good
health!

Cook-Out...Cook-In...You
Choose
Join us on Friday, July 16 when Susan Green from The
Ohio State University Extension shares information about safe
outdoor cooking. What is all the fuss about rubs for grilled
meats? What is the best way to cook vegetables on a grill? Do you
actually have to grill to enjoy that wonderful flavor? Come and
try some samples of grilled foods. The class is free, but advance
registration is required by July 9 to ensure that we have enough
goodies for all who come.

Got Recipes…?
Among other positive beliefs, seniors are thought of as
possessing that forgotten art of cooking and baking. It’s time
for another Olivedale Cookbook – it has been five years.
We will begin collecting recipes in August. In the meantime,
please sort through your recipe box and consider sharing
some of your favorites. We will make this collection a bit
different.
We will want to know from where or whom the recipe came (e.g., my
favorite aunt ), when you enjoy it, etc. We will have all those
details in August. We are also looking for a name or
"catch phrase" for the title of the book. |
